The room was dimly lit and the people gathered in it were solemn. The silence that hung in the room weighted heavy on the individuals. The door to the conference room slid open as the tired crew of the stolen vessel filed in. They all sat down except for one solitary figure: Jaina Solo. He hair lay tangled around her face and dark bags lined her red, puffy eyes. A few of the original occupants looked up at her. A baby's gurgle was heard. A women came up to the young girl of nineteen and started to wrap her in a hug. But Jaina shrugged her off. The women gently sighed, "Oh Jaina." She looked into her mother's tear stained eyes and said, "Don't touch me!" Leia slowly sulked back to her seat beside Han. He gently squeezed her hand has she sat down and shook his head in disbelief of his daughter. Finally, Jedi Master Skywalker spoke to his niece, "Jaina, we are glad to see you're safely back." He nodded his head at her in a friendly manner. "At what cost though?!" she said from the center of the room. She tossed a menacing look at her uncle. Mara Jade Skywalker stood up from behind her husband, "He died for what he believed in." Jaina laughed, "Are you sure about that? He wanted to save the galaxy and he couldn't even save himself." "Jaina, don't say it like that. Anakin was a good boy...." Luke started, but Jaina quickly retorted with, "He wasn't a boy. He was a man. And he died like a man, but don't you demoralize his death by calling him a kid." Mara moved towards her, "He didn't mean..." "I know what he meant. And now I want all of you to know what I mean." Her voice became firm and her body rigid as she started to revolve around the room, looking at all of the Jedi. "If we don't go out there and kill all of the Vong, Anakin died for nothing." She paused with a blank expression allowing that to sink into their minds. "Now I'm going back out there and I'm going to make sure that I don't lose another brother to those Sith Spawn. Is anyone with me?" she asked with a big gesture. The group didn't say a word. She rolled her eyes vehemently and started to leave the room, but stopped when she saw Kyp Durron standing by the door. She leaned into him and whispered, "I'm willing to fly with you now." Everyone looked at her trying to figure out what business she had with Kyp. He looked helplessly into her brandy-colored eyes, "I... I don't think that would be a good idea. I'm sort of..." he pointed towards Luke. Jaina's eyes followed Kyp's finger and figured out what he was trying to tell her. "Oh, so when I'm finally on your side, you're not even on your own side." Exasperated she said, "I'm leaving." She touched the door receptor and it opened. She spat out in Kyp's face before she left, "Bantha fodder." As Jaina was walking out the door, Leia started to stand up. She pleaded, "Jaina." Han grabbed her elbow and forced her back in her seat. She looked despondently into his eyes. Luke said to her, "Leia don't. She has to deal with this in her own way ." "But Luke, her anger. The Dark Side." Leia stressed. He shook his head, "It's only grief, Leia. She's stronger than that." "No she's not," said a voice in a corner. It was Zekk. He had been sitting unnoticeable since his entrance with the crew. He stood to his feet slowly. "You didn't see her after Anakin's death. I did." Mara's brow wrinkled with worry, "What are you trying to say, Zekk?" He hesitated, thinking of every word as he spoke, "Her anger seemed to consume her. And she then released that anger through the Force back out to her enemies. I've been there and well, I know what I saw. She used the Dark Side, Master Skywalker. We have to stop her." Luke's lips closed firmly to form a straight line, "I was afraid of this." * * * * * As she stepped out into the corridor of the Star Destroyer her steps echoed down it. With each step she took the anger inside of her boiled hotter. How could they not want to go save Jacen? She wasn't about to let the Vong take another loved one from her. She became totally absorbed in her own thoughts that she hadn't seen the door open and someone running into her. "Sorry," the man said helping her stand straight by grabbing her shoulders. At once he recognized her, "Jaina Solo." She glanced up into his eyes and the familiar feeling in her gut returned. "Hello Jagged," she replied. "What have you been up to?" He shrugged his shoulders, "Oh this and that." His expression grew serious, "I heard about your eyes. Are you okay?" She laughed and started to walk away. He took a few steps to catch up with her, "Why is it funny that I should be concerned about your eyes?" "Their fine," she said flatly. He grabbed her shoulder and forced her to face him. "What is wrong with you? You seem so... so," he struggled to find the word. "Grim." she laughed, "I remember a time when I wasn't grim enough for you. Ironic how things turn around." Why was she doing this? Why was she being so difficult? "Is this because I as ked about your eyes?" he asked bewildered. She looked him squarely in the eyes and said sternly, "Look. It's not about you or my stupid eyes." Just thinking about what had happened her eyes began to water. "If you must know. My brother died." Jagged stood speechless. "I'm sorry. I did not know." She fiercely wiped the tears from her eyes and shouted at him, "You didn't know. Well, everybody else in this blasted galaxy knows about it. Maybe if you stayed within the New Republic frequencies you'd know a thing or too. Just leave alone, Jagged" She stormed off. Inside she was also yelling at herself for acting like such a child. He ran after her and grabbed her wrist, "Jaina, this isn't like you." Her crackling laughter filled the hall and her eyes were filled with darkness, "You don't know me." The cloud over her eyes disappear and she seemed to be herself again, "Jagged, please leave before you get hurt." Instantly her eyes clouded over again and she began to tremble. The anger insi àde of her began to concentrate and forge its way out of her. Jagged swallowed hard and started to lead her by the hand back to the conference room in which she had originally exited. "Jaina, I'm taking you to your family. You need some help." The intense anger bubbled out of her through her fingertips in lightening strikes, like it had on Myrkr. The lightening struck Jagged and flung him up against the hull. He let out a short yowl. Jaina strode over to his lucid body and laughed to herself, "Stupid boy." She continued to her original destination of the hangar. * * * * * The Jedi filed out of the small room to the place where they had felt the disturbance in the force. Luke was the first to reach the unconscious man. He placed to fingers on his neck to make sure that he was still alive. "He has a pulse," he said more to himself than to his students and friends. Leia knelt down beside him and looked at the hurt Jagged Fel. She sighed heavily, "Jaina, d ëid this didn't she?" She looked into the icy eyes of her brother. He didn't have to say anything to her. The look he returned to her confirmed her worse fears. Her daughter was turning to the Dark Side. She had always feared that Anakin would have turned because of his namesake, but instead it was her only daughter. A lone tear slid down her face as a few men picked up the still unconscious Jagged. She slowly rose to her feet and took each step back to her chamber with Han cautiously. She didn't know what the next year would hold for her and her family. She didn't even know what the next week held. But she hoped beyond all hopes that she could bring her daughter back from the edge. She suddenly remembered Jacen's vision he had had on Duro. Maybe Jaina was the reason the galaxy was tipping towards the darkness. Another tear slipped down her cheek. She prayed that Jacen could keep the scales from tipping too far and that her daughter wouldn't be the one tipping it the other way.
